I had to share this amazing Cake that Adam (my husband, for anyone not in the know) made for Jayne's Ponyo birthday party tomorrow! Ponyo is an adorable movie and Ponyo LOVES ham, so we decided that we would make a ham sandwich cake for the party. We were going to do cupcakes, but those were too short, so we went for a full sheet cake. The ham is handmade rolled fondant with strawberry geletin for coloring. Adam used white frosing for mayo and yellow for mustard to hold all the layers together. I can't wait to see our soon to be 3 year old son's reaction to this cake. He has been talking about his ham cake for about 2 months now, so I really hope he likes it.
The Cat Returns is one of my favorite animated films. The end song, Kaze Ni Naru, is one of my favorite parts and gave me the longing to play the ukulele. I found just the uke for me here in Montreal. It is part musical instrument and part souvenir of Quebec. I am not terribly good at it yet, but I am starting to get this song down. Once I have it figured out, I will either attempt to learn the words so I can sing along, or move on to another great song. In the meantime, here is a great cover of the song by someone who has been playing a lot longer than I have.
